"It is extremely important that the rule of law no longer be perceived only as business for lawyers...It is something for every single person - from the rural people in the fields through the fisherman up to the MP's, the judges. Everyone should feel that the rule of law is part of his or her property."
-Adama Dieng, Assistant Secretary-General, United Nations
The WJP Opportunity Fund was established in order to support programs for action conceived by multidisciplinary coalitions formed at the World Justice Forum in 2008. The Fund encourages the use of new and innovative methods to achieve impact and encourage long-term sustainability.
The first round of the Fund supported 36 programs spanning five continents. These Opportunity Fund programs worked on a wide variety of rule of law initiatives, ranging from capacity-building to aid services for the poor in India, to legal aid training for women in Lebanon, to developing a model for delivering justice services in China.
For the second round of the Opportunity Fund, the WJP identified 12 outstanding multidisciplinary rule of law programs to receive seed grants. The 12 selected proposals cover 28 countries and a broad spectrum of disciplines.
